WIADOMOŚCI ENTOMOLOGICZNE
STRONA GŁÓWNAREDAKCJA / INFORMACJE DLA AUTORÓW I RECENZENTÓW SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

I. Volume of papers

The papers sent in for publication should not exceed 12 pages of standard print, i.e. about 21 600 characters, including tables and figures.
Articles over the permitted volume can be accepted for publication only if the author pays the cost of editing the excess pages. The authors shall be notified about the amount of extra cost after typesetting has been completed; the payment is a prerequisite of publication.

Short contributions, reviews, reports (except for reports from PTEnt. and ZG PTEnt. board meetings), as well as communications and annalistic reports should not be longer than 3 standard pages.

The publisher reserves the right to correct the texts and recommend shortening the text.

II. Layout

The articles should be laid out as follows:
1. title in Polish, and in English underneath (for articles written in English the opposite order);
2. the authors' full names and surnames, full postal and e-mail addresses (in the case of contributions, reviews, reports and communications: authors' names and surnames and short names of institutions with towns should be placed at the end of the text);
3. an abstract in English with a brief presentation of the paper's content (for scientific papers except for short communications);
4. keywords in English with concise, entry-like reference to the paper subject (in scientific papers and short contributions);
5. an abstract in English below the main body of the text (or in Polish if the article is in English), with a concise presentation of the content and results of a study (except for short communications, annalistic entries, reviews, discussion etc.);
6. references (see p. IV).

In the papers presenting study material the following order should be adhered to: UTM, site name, day, month (Roman numerals), year, number of specimens, sex, additional information, e.g.:

- XU03 Piotrkówko ad Szamotuły, 2 IX 1993, 2m, field woodlots, Barber's traps, leg. P. STACHOWIAK, det. et coll. M. BUNALSKI.

If there are more observations of one site, the name of site in further records should be replaced with the word "idem".

While quoting the name of the author and the year of publication must be given in brackets, and further papers by the author in the same year should be marked with lower case characters:
- for one author: KADŁUBOWSKI 1967a
- for two authors: KINEL and NOSKIEWICZ 1936
- for three or more authors: BURAKOWSKI et al. 1986.

If the same paper is referred to several times, the following should be used:
- for the same paragraph: KADŁUBOWSKI idem
- for different paragraphs: KADŁUBOWSKI op.cit.

Historiographic papers which present entomologists should be accompanied with a photo, a possibly full list of their publications in entomology and related areas, and the body of the text should describe the entomological heritage left by the scientist in question, e.g. a collection of specimens, books etc. and give their location.

Articles and communications (except for reviews, reports, notices and annalistic materials) the taxonomical names of species and genera quoted for the first time in the paper should be accompanied by names (or abbreviations thereof) of respective authors, according to the principles of international codes of biological nomenclature.

III. Formats

The submitted texts should be justified (aligned to both margins) and saved in one of the accepted formats. These are: DOC, DOCX and RTF.

It is recommended to use emphasis fonts, particularly:
- italics for Latin names of genera and species
- capitals for the names used in the text
- boldface for article and chapter titles.

Tables should be made as text, with lines divided with an Enter stroke, columns with a Tab stroke and lines marked, or else they can be submitted in the EXCEL format. Large-sized tables, i.e. exceeding 18 cm in print, should be avoided.
Each table should be saved as a separate file.

Figures (photos, drawings and charts) should be saved as TIFF or JPEG files.
The recommended picture definition for this type of files:
- colour or grey scale and halftones - minimum 300 dpi;
- black-and-white bitmaps - min.1000 dpi;
- a combination of the two - min. 500 dpi.

The author may indicate a way to block the figures. Those which have been reproduced can be published only if copyright is complied with.

Drawings, photo and charts are to be marked as Fig. and numbered with subsequent Arabic numerals, (e.g. Fig. 3), and their details with letters. Tables should be marked with Roman numerals (e.g. Tab. IV). Keys to figures and tables should be saved in a separate file, in Polish and English.

The cost of printing of colour figures and tables are borne by the author.

IV. References

The references should include only the items quoted in the paper. They should be listed in an alphabetical order by authors' surnames and include:
- the authors' surnames and initials,
- year of publication,
- full title of the paper,
- full name of the publishing house,
- place of publication (for serial publications which are not magazines),
- number of volume (or the journal, if necessary),
- first and last page numbers.

In short communications a shortened bibliographical form should be inserted in the text in brackets, e.g.: (MARCINKOWSKI 1984: Pol. Pismo Ent., 54: 229-230).

Non-Latin alphabets should be transliterated according to international standards, and the abbreviations of periodical titles should comply with the World List of Scientific Periodicals.
